Our Lady’s Sanctuary  orthodox church

Built in 1873 (rachitect R. Pfluge).  

 

Lielsalacas Lutheran church

Built in 1857, in place of previos wooden church. Altar and pulpit are preserved from the second half of 18th century.  

 

Castele mound of Salaca

In 1226 bishop Albert of Riga’s castle was built here and it governed access to the sea. Castle was damaged many times destroyed castle were used to build the church wall so castle mound is the only evidence of the castle.  

 

St. Mary Gorety catholic church

Built in 1997 (archited D. Straubergs).Sacred music concerts often take place there.Service every day on 19:00 (except for Fridays). On Sundays the service is on 17:00.  

 

Monument for everyone who has died in the sea end 2th World War

Made in 1996, sculptor L. Novozenecka, architect J.Petersons.  

 

Ferzen family’s monument in the former property of the Ferzens - in manor garden of  Vecsalaca

During baron Ferzen’s life time here was founed the first maritime museum of Latvia with rich and interesting expozition.  

 

Restricted Area – Salaca river’s valley

Popular place for water tourists and fisherman.  

 

Livian sacrifice cave On the bank of  Svētupe near by the gulf of Kuikule. The most importain cult place in the former area of Metsepolis. In the archealogial findings 628 coins and antiquites have been found, there are also engravings of the ancient sings of magic. It one of the longest mid - Devonian caves in Latvia.  

 

Memorial room of Latvian poet Jānis Sudrabkalns

In a private house ‘ Sprundas ‘  in the country side of Salacgrīva. Phone # +371 4044532 (visiting possible after preliminary agreement). Meeting e number of a family that was loved by the in a house, where J. Sudrabkalns spent 30 summers engaged in a creative work and rest from 1945 to 1974.

 

 

  Seaside of Vidzeme from Ainaži to Kuiviži. The biggest area of maritime meadows in Latvia. Randu meadovs is the only herbarium in Latvia where in 200 ha space is one third of all flowering plants. There are 37 plants that are protected by Latvian and also Europen Red List. Internationally recognized ground of bird migration and nesting.

Jaunupe (New River) An artifilacal 5 km long canal made in 17th century, to turn part of the waters of Svētupe into Salaca.  

 

Reinforced concrete bridge of Anna’s manor

Bridge over Salaca, 3 km from Salacgrīva – the first reinforced concrete bridge in the Baltics,exposed in 13th June,1909.   

 

Stony seaside of  Vidzeme

 

Restriced area. 14 km long specific seaside with stony seashore and many capes.  

 

Red cliffs Veczemes (Mantiņas)

200 m long and 4 m high ourtcrop of red sandstone with grottos and caves – the most beautiful in Latvia.

Monument of nature – boulder cluster in the see, approx. 200 m from the shore. 

 

  River of Salaca One of the most pictutesque and cleanest rivers of Latvia, it is recognized as one of 150 most biodiverse water courses. Salaca is the 4th most importain salmon spawn area in the Baltic sea region. Here also spawn vimbas and lampries, which are very rare in the rest of Euorupe. Salaca seduces water tourists, fisherman and nature lovers.
